The northwest side of the center was developed by Henry S. Miller, Co. and Trammell Crow in 1958. It was named Preston Royal Village to distinguish it from the shopping center across the street, which Miller and Crow acquired in 1965. When Preston Royal Village opened, there was only one other retail strip north of Northwest Highway.
